St. Louis photojournalist Erik Lunsford specializes in documentary and editorial photojournalism for clients around the world.
Hello, and welcome. Photojournalists love dream assignments. Some love war assignments, some love fashion, others love sports. I love to tell stories through photos. I love to make meaningful images that will grace books and mantels for generations. I believe in the power of strong visual storytelling and I receive monumental satisfaction knowing that people enjoy my photographs everyday. As a staff photojournalist for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, I bring my storytelling to 1.3 million readers weekly. That’s more readers in one week than an entire season of fans attending Cardinals games at Busch Stadium. We dedicate the time to making good photographs and work hard for our subjects.
Recently I was part of a team that was a finalist for a Pulitzer-Prize in breaking news reporting on the shootings at Kirkwood City Hall. In addition, Pictures of the Year International, Joop Swart Masterclass of World Press Photo, the Southern Short Course in Photography, the Atlanta Photojournalism Seminar, the Florida Press Club, the Society of Professional Journalists and others have recognized my work.
I love photography books and the work of countless photographers. Sam Abell, Chris Morris, and Alex Webb are three photographers who have influenced me the most in my career. They are masters of light, gesture, mood, texture, moment, and composition.
Uncommons is a blog I write about photographic works, titled Everyday Art, that find their way into my daily life through a visual characteristic that either emotionally or aesthetically arrests my vision.
