I am a St. Louis-based freelance editorial photojournalist and staff photojournalist at the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. After graduating from St. Louis University in 2002, I moved to Stuart, Florida, to work at the Stuart News. Eight months later, I joined the staff of the Palm Beach Post and worked in the Treasure Coast and West Palm Beach offices until 2007, when I moved back to St. Louis –my hometown – to work at the Post-Dispatch. POYi, Joop Swart Masterclass of World Press Photo, the Southern Short Course in Photography, the Atlanta Photojournalism Seminar, the Florida Press Club, the Society of Professional Journalists, and others have recognized my work.
I love photography books and the work of countless photographers. Sam Abell, Chris Morris, and Alex Webb are three photographers who have influenced me the most in my career. They are masters of light, gesture, mood, texture, moment, and composition. Other photographers worth mentioning are David Alan Harvey, Elliot Erwitt, Annie Liebowitz, Stephen Shore, William Christenberry, James Nachtwey, Susan Sontag (her writing is crucial to the language of photography), and William Albert Allard.
Storytelling is a key quality of my photography, and weddings are an integral part of my photographic life. With over ten years of wedding experience in St. Louis and South Florida, I bring my own style of photojournalism to traditional wedding photography.
What is uncommons? It is an ongoing book project of personal vision and a collection of outstanding photography by other photographers. It contains the work of Everyday Art. Here is more information.
