While it’s sad they have only shadows to gaze at, at least the prisoners in Plato’s cave where I’ve been holed up working these last few weeks are accommodating. A number of projects nearing the point of overdue all hit center stage like a trapeze artist in a ring of elephants. At least by the time I type this piece clients and editors are now receiving their award-winning pictures and video. In addition, we spent a week moving out of our cramped apartment into a cozy house complete with a huge backyard and space to roam. The windows are open again, the music cranked up; we’re free again. It looks eerily similar to our house in Florida, if you’re interested in aesthetics.

Meanwhile, work at the paper never stops — thankfully, because I love and cherish it — so it’s always a balance between daily, long-term, editorial freelance and the wedding business. I can’t complain, because I love being busy. It lets me be reclusive by nature (sorry, gotta get this project finished!) and it sustains my life’s work and mission. There’s always so much more to finish. I need to get my wedding blog up, need to finish up a few editorial and wedding demo books, work on my ongoing list of wedding prospects and follow up with referrals. Not to mention the new wedding galleries for the site and, oh, just a heck of a lot more to complete. Such great heights.

You just try to move your feet and keep going. There’s tons of stuff I want to show you coming up, including this killer story on DWIs that I co-authored and landed on Sunday A-1. There’s also the day where I picked up some tips n’ tricks to concrete paving — always useful stuff the next time I need to rent a huge industrial Gomaco Commander III highway paving machine, and a brief trip to Nebraska to hang out and shoot a fantastic wedding.

Well as Modest Mouse would say, “well that is that and this is this,” it’s time to keep working. DWI up next and adventures in highway median construction.
