Mark Tucker wrote a nice post compiling lines overheard at Ad Agencies on the transition to digital, and now apparently, back to film. Maybe I sold that Mamiya RZ-67 a little too soon…hmm. Even fellow (excellent) blogger Tim Gruber is thinking a Mamiya over a 5D Mark II.
“It’s funny lately, how I’m reading these articles again about the joys of film, versus the clinical-clean digital files that everyone is now shooting. It’s almost like memories of an old girlfriend, where all you remember are the good parts about the relationship. It’s almost like some kind of Harmonic Convergence of a recoil against digital, when, for so long, it was such an uphill battle to get digital accepted.” – Mark Tucker
Head to Mark’s post for the lines. Here’s a good start:
“Wow, I’m not sure about this digital stuff, but it sure is nice to see it big on that 24″ monitor, instead of a little folded Polaroid”.

Lovely frame Erik. Straight out of a Sam Abell book.
Why did you get rid of the Mamiya? Would be curious how you liked working with it. Finding myself more and more attracted to things these days that would lend themselves well to a med. formate camera over a 35mm frame. Would love your thoughts.
Thanks

Hey Tim,
Great question, and thanks for writing. I sold the Mamiya for two reasons. First, I was hardly using it, and second, I needed to purchase more personal digi equipment to round out my kit. In hindsight, maybe I should have kept it, but the freelance money made on the digital equipment was (unfortunately for the Mamiya’s case) far more profitable.
One camera I really want to use again is a Fuji GA645. http://dirckhalstead.org/issue0105/cameracorner.htm That camera was outstanding as a portable 645, and the lens was very sharp. I carried it everywhere. Unfortunately I had to return it to the photographer who owned it. A loan only goes so long.
If I find another Fuji floating around, I probably will buy it, but I’ve heard reports that servicing the camera is difficult. We’ll see.
Erik
